There are many reasons why I love working at PNA. This picture illustrates one of my favorite reasons...everyone has a safe and supportive place to be themselves. This quick snapshot happened at the very end of snack time when we generally play "Beat the Song". A song is put on and the kids need to finish and clean up their spots before it is over.
I don't even remember what this particular song was but the kids decided to create an impromptu rock band. They each went about it and added to the group in their own way. From picking instruments, to deciding lead and backup singers, to figuring out where they should stand...this collaboration involved communication skills, critical thinking and creativity. The students who weren't in this picture were creating signs to judge the singers or quickly cleaning up to join in the fun! What I loved about this 3 minutes was that the kids were respectful and accepting of the choices of their classmates and incorporated each and every idea quickly and effortlessly. They are beginning to internalize the ideals that we practice everyday and coming together as a cohesive, creative and kind community. I couldn't ask for a better way to end this semester! Wise Words
