A Nature Adventure
9/1/2018
This week we talked about our families and our feelings. As the students continue to learn the school routine and make new relationships with peers and teachers (including our PE, Music, Art, and Spanish teachers) we want to make sure that our Explores know how to talk and express the feelings they may have at school. We discussed what makes us happy, sad, and scared. We talked about what we could do at school when we feel this way. Having these discussions lets the students know that everyone (teachers too!) experiences these feelings and that they are in a supported environment. We have been continuing to grow our new friendships. We made a graph about who lives in our house. This activity encouraged counting and comparing and sharing. We learned that families can all be different and that Love is what makes a family. One great way to make friendships is by having shared experiences. This week we read the book Wemberly Worried about a little mouse that is very worried about her first day at school. When she meets another mouse who also worries a lot, they become friends and this helps her worry less and enjoy school. On Friday our class went on a nature walk. The sun was shining and there was so much to look at: many colored leaves, different textured sticks, flowers in all shapes. As the students ran through the field, climbed a hill in the "woods", and helped each other collect treasures they were sharing together in an adventure. This shared experience will help them form friendships as the year progresses. Getting to know you! More snapshots from the week!
