Making Memories
5/24/2019
This week the children loved reviewing all the fun learning they have taken part in this year. After sharing our memories with the class, the children thought of their favorite things to design their own t-shirt. They showed great pride in their finished results and loved sharing these memories will the other students in the school during the field day. Our class is now full of resilient, resourceful and reflective learners. They have matured so much throughout this year. There have been many special moments we have shared together as illustrated through our blogs here. Each student is now more than prepared for the exciting challenges ahead in Kindergarten.
Good luck, I am so proud of you and will miss you all!

Field trip fun
5/17/2019
It was an emotional time for some of us saying good bye to the butterflies they had been observing since they were tiny caterpillars. For some of us the biggest thrill of the day was riding on bus for the first time. It definitely added to the excitement of the trip, that we were all traveling together. Although there was some sadness at saying see you later to our butterfly friends, this was soon forgotten when we were able to play on the super tall playground. Even the adults enjoyed the huge slide! Fabulous fun was had by all...Back at school whilst others took a quick snooze some of our learners recorded these wonderful memories... The countdown is on!Every morning this week we have found a hidden challenge in our count down to summer balloons. We have really enjoyed discovering our secret missions each day. So far we have built boats, made parachutes, designed and tested our own board games, built a bridge and decorated butterfly buns. We can't wait to see what the last 4 days with Ms Claire have in store.
We've had a bug blast!

It's been a few weeks wait, but our butterflies have today finally emerged! The children were delighted to see the chrysalides break open and very excited to see what the butterflies would look like and trying to distinguish their type. We now look forward to observing them feeding and then releasing them during next week. "Creepy Crawley" - has been our class call out for stop and listen for the last few weeks. We have certainly enjoyed studying all these different mini beasts. From finding and comparing lengths of worms on a rainy day, to catching beetles and spiders and checking their number of legs and body parts. This has certainly been a very exciting and interesting focus of study and the children have learnt a lot of knowledge and skills along the way. Creature crafting ...This week we have studied the wonderful world of bees. The children were first interested in the shape of the cells of the bee hives. This led to a shape hunt around the school to look for hexagons and other shapes. We discussed the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. On return to the classroom the children wanted to explore tessellating patterns. The children enjoyed finding hexagons in our environment and exploring the many ways that they fit together. They compared them with other shapes that did or did not tessellate. They then enjoyed making their own maths games involving adding pollen to the cells of the beehive. Mini-beast Family FeastThank you to our wonderful EKC families for celebrating our learning this Friday. The children loved sharing what they had learnt so far with their families, dressing up in some magnificent bug costumes and feasting on some tasty mini-beast themed treats.
The excitement continued as we then took a sneak peek into next week's focus bug and were able to release some ladybirds into our outdoor environment. |
