Snowshoe Adventures

The time has finally come to get these kids outside more often. The snow is slowly melting, the sun is shining brightly and the air is feeling warmer! The kids were given the choice between bringing their own cross-country ski's and borrowing snowshoes for two weeks of outdoor adventures. We learned how to put the snowshoes on correctly, walk in them, run in them and even how to navigate fresh snow. There were some epic falls, but part of the learning process is getting back up again right?
The benefits and opportunities are limitless...especially in Alaska! I found this article that highlights the biggest benefits of snowshoeing for kids and if you weren't convinced after watching the video then you might be after reading this article. www.parentmap.com/article/5-reasons-to-try-snowshoeing-with-adrenaline-charged-kids The Little Prince

Beginners - 2nd Grade Musical: The Little Prince Friday March 30th @4:30"What they are looking for could be found in one single rose or in a little water if they looked with their heart." MARK YOUR CALENDARS for Friday, March 30th @ 4:30 as Pacific Northern Academy's Beginners through 2nd Grade will present a musical version of Antoine De Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince! This will be my 8th show with our "littlest performers" and I am very proud of all the hard work they have put into their show. This will also be the first show where the Beginner class will stay on stage! (Fingers crossed) The Little Prince is a poetic tale, in which a pilot stranded in the desert meets a young prince visiting Earth from a tiny asteroid. The story is philosophical and includes social criticism of the adult world. The main theme of The Little Prince is the importance of looking beneath the surface to find the real truth and meaning of a thing. It is the fox who teaches the Prince to see with one's heart instead of just with one's eyes. Unfortunately, most adults have difficulty doing this. "Please tame me! " Before reaching Earth, the Little Prince stops at a variety of other planets and meets some interesting characters including a King and Queen, a Lamplighter, a sugar-rushed Tippler, a Businessman, and a Conceited Man. But back on his tiny planet, is his friend, the Rose! While on Earth, he meets a Geographer, a Fox, a Train Switchman, and...a SNAKE!!! COSTUME INFORMATION!!!
Costume parts are due Tuesday March 27th! I have a costume rack in the music room for all costumes. Here is some additional information about costumes. You may also find this information outside your students classroom. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me! The Iditarod is on! Dogs in Art!

The Art Room was a checkpoint, specifically, SKWENTNA. Ms. Jaeger liked that, because she had flown there a number of times in high school. All throughout the school major checkpoints and land and water features were set up. It was great fun! You could hear the teams go by! What a race! In this photo we see Pablo PIcasso. I wonder what he thinks of all these dogs? I think he likes them! The First and Second Grades made wayang kulit puppets. They had been introduced to the techniques of Indonesian Shadow Puppets last year as a result of a classmate, Raditya, whose parents gave Ms. Jaeger some examples. The classes have loved making them ever since then. In this large painting, a Kindergarten student displays one of the many dog drawings and paintings the Kindergarten class created in the spirit of the Iditarod, the great race of Mercy, as it has been called.
