All the Art Classes took home projects to give to parents and relatives. Each class learned about the presentation for a canvas. Most of the grades, K through 8th, attached D-rings and wire, and the Beginners and EK learned about this process. The EK learned more techniques in painting, and Ms. Jaeger demonstrated the effects and purpose of using these techniques. What Ms. Jaeger calls "throwing the paint" and then selectively wiping it off, was shown on two of Ms. Jaeger's five foot by four foot canvases. Ms. Jaeger is planning for the younger students to work large, and know how to approach his or her compositions on a large canvas. Ms. Jaeger also asked Ms. Jo to help with teaching Filipino dancing the last five minutes of class, and this was included in the list of techniques to help the arms direct the brush on large canvases. It was great fun! The First Grade practiced woodburning on small snowflakes, in order to learn the techniques. The 3rd through 8th Grades woodburned a drawing into planks of pine. They sanded and varnished the woodburned images. Learning about wrapping the gift, making a professional-looking yarn tie, notecard, and tissue flower was done. A PBL Project, the Postcards of Hope, continued on. This is the fourth year we have done this PBL. In the past, the Art Program has participated in many projects that involve the greater community of Anchorage and further. It will be a wonderful New Year! So many art projects to design and complete! We plan to be very busy, making meaningful projects that allow us to grow in many ways. The Art Program wishes you the best! Hardcore Parkour

Parkour has finally made it's appearance in gym class this year. The kids have been begging for the Parkour unit since the beginning of the year and they did a great job stretching their physical abilities and taking some risks during this popular unit. This is a great chance for kids to find a way to clear an obstacle as efficiently as possible, but it's also a chance for them to show of their skills and tricks! Parkour, also known as free running, is a French military-designed training which utilizes obstacle courses. The obstacles requires extreme focus and a can-do attitude, and heavily utilize physical abilities such running, jumping, swinging, rolling and even climbing. It’s is a fun and exciting way to exercise and anyone can enjoy it.
How does Parkour benefit your child? I found this info on www.healthfitnessrevolution.com and it perfectly outlines the many benefits and advantages to working out "parkour style."
