Class Is Getting Crowded...
3/30/2018
There was a big change this week in the fourth grade class. Can you spot the change in the photograph above? That's right! Fourth grade is very happy to welcome David, a new student, into our class. David is an energetic, bright, happy young fellow who returns to Pacific Northern Academy's fourth grade class after having visited several months ago, during our broadcasting unit! (Check our blog from February 16, 2018 blog for a full interview with David in Friday's episode!) Ukelele (SP?) Practice!Seriously -- who needs explanations, captions or any information at all when you've got pictures of fourth graders with ukalalaylees. Wait. I mean you-kah -- No, actually, I mean ukah -- No, that's not quite right. Aw, heck -- UKE-HOWEVER-YOU-SPELL-THEMS! Time To Organize The Library (Again)! The fourth grade class has been letting the library get a little wild and crazy as of late. Because of this, it was decided that it was time to reorganize the library. Categories included (but were not limited to)... Scary Stories, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Animal Stories... and many, many others! And... Math! This week, the students worked on ratio tables involving bases other than 10. One of the 'bases' that we looked at was UTC Standard (Coordinated Universal Time), and understanding why it was that standard algorithm would not work to add or subtract UTC time! it was enough to tie an adult's brain in a pretzel, but the fourth graders got it just fine! Dirt. That's right -- dirt! This week, fourth grade studied the three different types of rock (Can YOU name them? No? I'll bet your student can!) as well as the effects of erosion. The class went out to gather 'natural materials' in order to construct miniature shelters. In the photos below, you can see what the kids gathered. Stay tuned for next week's blog, where you'll see what we build with our 'natural materials' and how we test their performance! Kenny & Bella Run A Roleplaying GameHush Hush & On The QTNext week, fourth graders will be participating in the wild and wacky world of ERBs! Whoo hoo, there's nothing like four days of straight testing to get the blood flowing! As such, please make sure that your child gets enough shuteye, eats a healthy diet, and arrives at school on time and rip-roarin' to go!
Fourth grade will be testing Monday through Thursday, with makeup time to be scheduled for Friday if necessary. Please see the schedule below. Back In Action!

This week, the Fourth Grade class was back in action! We'd thought that the students might be a little sluggish getting back, but it turns out that the opposite was true -- after two weeks of wild and wacky Spring Break, the Fourth Grade had more energy than ever! (Having said that, however, the Fourth Grade teacher was sure to get the students out for some fun on the newly constructed hill behind the school!) The Auction ProjectHmm... we don't want to reveal too much, though, do we..? The Science Fair!In addition to working on the fourth grade auction project, students had the science fair to contend with! In the photos and videos below, watch as the fourth graders bring their 'A Game' to Pacific Northern Academy's annual science fair! Despite the the hoopla over the auction and the science fair, the fourth graders found some time to clown around. In the photos below, the fourth graders take some time out to read, relax, play chess, and compete in a game of 'Transformers'. In the game, teams must use their bodies to assemble a shape that represents an animal, vegetable or mineral of the teacher's choosing... Can you guess what they're trying to make? Hush Hush & On The QTWell, I would love to put some things in here about next week, but since I've sent this one out late, that means that I'm actually writing about the week that already happened! And that would just be confusing... so... take a look at NEXT week's blog for more information on next week. Which really IS next week.
Or something like that! |
