BLOG-mas: Day 1
Now that things have settled down after the big earthquake on November 30th, it’s time to get back to what’s happening in music! Believe me, the music room was REALLY rocking and rolling that day!
I thought it would be fun to give you a daily glimpse into the music curriculum at PNA this week. Welcome to the 4 Music Days of BLOG-mas! Everyday this week I’m going to highlight what is happening in music class! So keep checking in EVERYDAY!!! Today, Monday Dec. 17th we will visit with 3rd Grade. 3rd Grade in the Keyboard Lab!
3rd Grade is learning how to read notes on the staff (both treble and bass clefs) and apply it to playing the piano. There are only 5 keyboards in the music room this year so we have to work in groups and go through a rotation. Students are responsible for reading the chalk board to find out what their group is doing. There are 3 stations: Games. note-reading packet and keyboard time which is fondly referred to as “keyboard lab”.
The note reading packets give students individual time to hone their note reading skills.
Games geared to identifying notes sequence and where they are located on the actual piano keyboard are a great way for students to retain note names and order.
Keyboard lab is where it all comes together and students receive one-on-one instruction as they are learning to play piano.
PNA: Performing in the Community!
For the past four years I have had the privilege of performing in Perseverance Theatre's production of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol. The show has run for 5 years and there has been a PNA student performer EVERY year of the run! This year 2 more PNA students have joined the cast! Iris (8th Grade) and Nevaeh (5th Grade) are taking time out of their schedules to help spread some holiday cheer to the Anchorage community! Check back in over the next few days of BLOG-mas to hear about their experience!
Iris plays "Martha Cratchit" oldest daughter of Bob Cratchit. Nevaeh plays several ensemble parts throughout the show and is a featured soloist in one of the caroling scenes.
A Christmas Carol runs until Dec. 29th! Follow the link below for ticket information!

ENCORE!
I really enjoy the fact that students like to come up to the music room just to hang out! Keno and Zach have been coming up on Thursdays just to play and explore on the piano. It's a great way to usher in Friday!
