Run Like the Wind
9/28/2018
On my first day back from maternity leave I cautiously told the 3rd through 8th graders that we would be starting our running unit and that we would be going outside to run for 30 minutes continuously to kick the unit off. I also mentioned that they would be running the mile after some practice and I'm not quite sure what I expected their reaction to be. I was certainly not expecting the cheers that ensued after my announcement. Some were so overjoyed they asked if they could give me a hug.
What a lovely treat to be able to teach kids that enjoy being active. They were excited to run and welcomed the chance to push themselves. How rare is that? The even better part of this scenario is that while they were running and when some students finished ahead of others they took it upon themselves to cheer on their friends. Some even ran across the field to encourage their fellow runners to finish strong. Talk about a proud teacher moment! Here are a few websites that give information on how to encourage kids to run, how to keep them injury free, and they many benefits that come from getting those kids moving: www.realbuzz.com/articles-interests/fitness/article/is-running-good-for-kids/ www.runandbecome.com/running-training-advice/running-for-children-benefits-and-tips www.app.com/story/life/wellness/2014/07/01/running-kids-benefits/11659193/ Comments are closed.
