Welcome Back Fourth Grade!
1/14/2018
This week, Fourth Grade returned to the classroom to start 2018 fresh! Their teacher was worried they might be a little sluggish upon returning, but that didn't seem to be the case at all as they got right down to some Math review work (as seen in the video above). On the contrary, students seemed supercharged to begin the new year (as seen in the video below)! Students also got a fresh start in their Language Arts class, where they worked on daily writing prompt drills to bring their writing muscles into shape. The daily drills were short and sweet, the actual writing portion lasting no more than 15 - 20 minutes, and the analysis lasting nearly half an hour. Students were asked to write with a focus on balancing action, thought and dialogue -- three corners of fiction writing that help keep the story alive in the minds of readers. In the photo below, Jackson steps to the board to show some changes he believe will make another student's writing better. But, it wasn't all work. The students were full of energy, and we took some time out of a few of our days for emergency recesses -- a super important part of learning! And, we had a surprising guest lecturer this week. It seems that Kenny has been watching PBS's NOVA series and wanted to educate the class on black holes... Finally, as a special sneak preview, we now present an excerpt from rehearsals for Monday's upcoming Martin Luther King Day Presentation. Enjoy! Hush Hush |
