Middle School Museum
4/27/2018
The second graders were given the opportunity to visit the museum created by the 7th and 8th grades this week. They were able to practice important communication skills as they interacted with the middle school students and discussed their exhibits. They were able to independently explore some of the exhibits that had more of an interactive feature. The second graders were amazed by some of the ingenious ways in which the middle schoolers created their exhibits. They were also able to stand back and silently contemplate the information that was being presented.
As we left the museum, the kids were still discussing the things that they saw. This type of cross-age activity is so important to both ages. This is one of several times that these two grade levels were able to interact with each other within an academic setting. In December, the Middle Schoolers visited our class store and provided an authentic audience for our project. They also came down during "The Hour of Code" and helped the second graders learn coding. This past week it was our turn to come and help them celebrate their hard work. Watching how these two groups of students comfortably interact with each other is another reminder about how strong our community is and how important it is to support one another.
