Kodiak!
5/10/2019
Well, it's over in time... but it will always be in our memories! This week, the fourth and fifth grade classes spent five days and four nights in Kodiak, Alaska -- the second largest island in the United States. We had an itinerary going in, but we didn't limit ourselves to that. The week leading up to the trip, the class took the opportunity to research most of the places that we were about to visit, but they also added a few more. (Though Mr. Yancik and Ms. Katie had some trouble squeezing them all in!) Arrival!Kodiak Airport turned out to be a little bit smaller than we'd been expecting, but new experiences were all a part of the program! And, what was the first thing we did after arriving? Well, to get something to eat, of course! We stopped in at Ms. Katie's favorite Thai restaurant! And, of course, before bed we sat down for a meeting about what we expected on our trip, and how we planned to accomplish all the cool things we wanted to do! Day 2For our first full day, we spent most of our time out on the ocean, exploring and doing experiments with a real marine biologist! We even had a little visitor join us around lunch time... We also got to do a little tide-pooling at the end of the day, using some of the things we learned on the boat to explore the shores of Kodiak Island! As you can see, the landscapes and geographical features were stunning! Day 3Our third day was slightly less hectic... but only slightly. We spent the day visiting the Kodiak World War 2 Museum, hiking Fort Abercrombie Park, checking out the beaches, and trying more tide-pooling. Day 4So, Day Four is kind of a blur. I'm pretty sure we did a few things, because there is photographic proof, but my head is still spinning from the sheer number of activities. We started the morning off with a hike to the wind turbines on the top of Mount Pillar, and then moved on to the touch tanks at the Kodiak Fishery! After a visit to the museum, we hopped over to Trident Cannery, where we got to see how fish sticks are made! And then we finished out the day with another nice little hike... Day 5We closed out our final day with a visit to the Kodiak History Museum, where we explored a home that is a little over two hundred years old... And, Just For Fun...Comments are closed.
