THE Overnight
5/3/2019
If you hear a third grader talk about "THE overnight", they are referring to their one-night trip to the Challenger Learning Center, a capstone experience this year. Spring trip at PNA provide opportunities for students to become more independent when they are away from home. As the school year comes to an end, this trip was a wonderful way to build stronger friendships, camaraderie, and self-esteem. Spring trips at PNA help students become independent thinkers as they collaborate with each other. The Alaska Challenger Learning Center provides a hands-on learning experience that supplements PNA's curriculum. Students were able to learn about robotics, its history and how they're being used in present day. Students also designed and tested their own robots to perform a series of tasks. The trip also served as our PBL unit's entry event. Through engaging and hands-on activities, third graders learned about animal adaptations aligned with the NGSS 3rd grade standards: 3-LS4 Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity 3-LS4-3. Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. These third graders knew they were having fun because they did not want to go home. They probably did not realize that they were also making memories. Comments are closed.
