This week we have studied the wonderful world of bees. The children were first interested in the shape of the cells of the bee hives. This led to a shape hunt around the school to look for hexagons and other shapes. We discussed the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. On return to the classroom the children wanted to explore tessellating patterns. The children enjoyed finding hexagons in our environment and exploring the many ways that they fit together. They compared them with other shapes that did or did not tessellate. They then enjoyed making their own maths games involving adding pollen to the cells of the beehive. Mini-beast Family FeastThank you to our wonderful EKC families for celebrating our learning this Friday. The children loved sharing what they had learnt so far with their families, dressing up in some magnificent bug costumes and feasting on some tasty mini-beast themed treats.
The excitement continued as we then took a sneak peek into next week's focus bug and were able to release some ladybirds into our outdoor environment.
