A Job Well Done

Thank you all for a great spring. I am thankful for the Beginners class and the parents for welcoming me while Hannah was on leave. I have really enjoyed getting to know each and every Beginner. The students in this class have been so eager to learn and excited to try new activities with Ms. Daina and myself. I have seen a lot of growth, physically, socially and academically in the past few months. Our Beginners have become more confident and eager to try new activities. Each of them will be ready for their next adventure.
If they are participating in the Pint Sized Panther’s summer camp they will continue to explore many exciting topics. I hope you enjoy summer and are able to explore with your Beginner. Here are a few pictures of the fun activities we did to celebrate an amazing school year. Vegetable Soup and Polar Bears

The Beginners have been so excited about their plants that they are growing. We decided to make soup with some of the vegetables that we are growing. It was great to see the kids chopping vegetables for our soup. It was very delicious. Many of our friends took their plants home, but a few decided to keep theirs here at school so we are able to watch them grow all summer. It will be very exciting to see what our harvest will look like in the fall. Each student helped with transplanting plants into a bigger pot. Our class mini garden will be right outside our door so we can watch the plants grow all summer. The most exciting part of our week was our trip to the zoo. The Beginners end their school year with a trip to the Alaska Zoo. It was a great day to see the animals. Most all of the animals were out and very active while we were there. At the zoo we also had a couple of special visitors, Ms. Hannah and her son, Jameson. Thank you to all of our family members that made this a special trip.
Mom, I Love You

This week the Beginners took a break from studying gardening and spent the week making gifts for a very special person in each of our lives, our Moms. During the week we made a beautiful card, a handprint keychain, a small canvas painting and a paper flower to give to our Mom’s on their special day. I enjoyed hearing each of the Beginners talk about what makes their Mom special and all things they like to do together. We read the book Mama Do You Love Me by Barbara M. Joosse. After reading the book the Beginners were able to reflect on things that we do sometimes that don’t make our Moms very happy, but no matter what she will always love us, because we are so special to her. Although we took a break from gardening this week, the Beginners were very excited about their mini gardens. The students are very eager to take their plants home so they can transplant them to bigger gardens or pots at home. The weather has made our outdoor time full of adventure. Beginners spent time looking for worms and other bugs. It is also so neat to see the friendships these three and four year olds have built during this school year. They truly enjoy each other and look forward to their time together. Ready Set Grow

The Beginners spent the week exploring seeds, plants, fruits and vegetables. A lot of the Beginners said they wanted to plant a sunflower if they had their own garden. At PNA we take great pride in teaching to our student’s interests. We are able to find out their interests and explore those together. We spent time investigating sunflower seeds and the lifecycle of a sunflower. We did a hands on activity with sunflower seeds. The Beginners were able to practice writing their names and then gluing seeds onto their paper. This activity was great for building fine motor skills. Working on fine motor helps our Beginners with many things such as handwriting and cutting. The Beginners favorite part of this activity was cracking the shells and eating the sunflower seed inside. We tasted many fruits and vegetables to see which we liked and didn’t like We also were able to find the seeds in many of the foods that we sampled. After our taste test we made a chart of foods that we liked, only liked a little and things we didn’t like at all. Some of the Beginners cleaned their plates while others were very reluctant to try new foods. The Beginners each planted their own mini gardens this week. They looked at their charts from earlier in the week to see what they liked to eat so they could plant those in their mini garden. Carrots, cucumbers and broccoli and snap peas were favorites with the Beginners. They are excited to watch their vegetables grow over the next few weeks. Taking care of a plants teaches our Beginners about responsibility, patience and also teaches them where some of their food comes from. Here are a few other pictures from this week during class.
