Families and Feelings
8/30/2018
This week the Beginners discussed families and how each one is unique and different. Through one activity, we learned that families come in different sizes and can expand beyond immediate family members. This activity also encouraged counting and comparing. We also learned about emotions and feelings. We read the books The Kissing Hand and Wemberly Worried and discussed feelings we may have while we are at school and how to handle them. For example, we talked about feeling sad and missing parents and we decided that a good way to feel better is to get a hug from a teacher, or read a book with a stuffed animal. In the Beginner's class, we want everyone's feelings to be validated and heard, even when they are angry, frustrated or sad. Working through these feelings successfully and in an appropriate manner is going to allow them to grow stronger and more mature. Here are some extra shots of classroom activities this week; Painting, playing and outside play. We even wrapped up the week by having a picnic outside on Friday. As Pax pointed out, "It's beautiful out here!"
First Week of School
8/25/2018
We had a fantastic start to the school year this year! The new Beginners were all so brave as they began learning the routines at school. They are already beginning to build friendships and create relationships with their teachers- the start to a positive and supportive community! Here are some pictures from our first week, playing outside, circle time and making play-doh. Next week we will start going to specials and begin learning about feelings, and how to deal with them appropriately.
